True to our mission, the Umbra Institute is dedicated to providing students with community engagement opportunities to learn through immersion in the local culture. At Umbra, we strive to create a student-centered learning environment that encourages experiential practice and focused reflection. Community engagement is woven into both the academic curriculum and extracurricular activities to form a dynamic, meaningful connection to Perugia and the people and organizations within it. To achieve this, Umbra has developed an extensive network of partnerships with local schools, non-profit organizations, businesses, and other institutions. The chief objectives of this educational approach are to broaden students’ disciplinary and language learning, develop intercultural awareness and encourage a more global perspective on civic engagement and service.
