IT & Library Resources

Located in the main building at Via Bartolo 16, the Umbra Institute Library offers students access to books, journals, newspapers and magazines covering a wide range of subjects from art history to visual arts. The library collection includes over 2000 selected holdings, as well as a number of feature films and documentaries on DVD and VHS. New materials are added regularly to keep up with updated course offerings.

Additionally, students have access to hundreds of online databases offering full text and abstracts of articles from thousands of newspapers, magazines and scholarly publications including popular resources such a JSTOR, Ebsco, FirstSearch, Wilsons, Lexus Nexus and more.

The Umbra Institute Library provides Internet access through a protected wireless network covering the entire facility, as well as twenty-five dedicated Ethernet ports for students with laptops that do not support WiFi technology. The wireless network is accessible from the street outside the building, allowing students to access the Internet anytime, even while enjoying an early morning cappucino when the facilities are closed.

Beyond the Umbra Library, students have access to a number of libraries nearby which maintain large and historical collections in Italian, but a few also include books in English as well. Umbra students are welcome to utilize the library as a quiet place to work and study, perform on-site research, and in some cases borrow books.

They include:

Biblioteca Augusta del Comune di Perugia,

Biblioteca dell’Università per Stranieri di Perugia,

Biblioteca Uguccione Ranieri di Sorbello,

Biblioteca Umanistica,
and eleven other libraries at the various departments of the Universita’ degli Studi di Perugia.
