Working with Umbra
The Umbra Institute offers a variety of opportunities for collaboration with US colleges and universities seeking to develop new academic programs, initiatives, and partnerships in Italy. From simply working closely with Umbra as an approved destination for your students, to developing new faculty-led or curriculum specific programs in Italy for your college or university, Umbra is likely to have an innovative mutually beneficial solution.
Umbra is an experienced, quality institution of American higher education in Italy, with a distinguished faculty, an excellent academic program, two centrally located facilities including well-equipped classrooms, computer labs, an extensive library and research center. And all this supported by a dedicated administrative and student services team offering unparalleled services. If your institution is interested in developing a program in Italy, we encourage you to consider the Umbra Institute in Perugia. With Umbra you choose the level and scope of the collaboration.
Please contact us if your institution is interested in:
- Adopting the Umbra program as a pre-approved destination for school;

- Collaborating with us for other educational initiatives.
Adopting Umbra as a Pre-Approved or University-Sponsored Program in Italy for Your Students
Looking to provide your students with new and distinctive opportunities to study in Italy beyond the traditional and, quite frankly, overly-exploited and crowded destinations like Florence? At Umbra, we believe that every student has a particular program and destination that is right for them. Offering only one destination in Italy for all your students is too broad a brush for too fine a detail. That’s why we encourage you to consider offering the Umbra Institute in Perugia as an additional or optional destination, especially for your gifted and more enterprising students; it’s the perfect alternative. Every institution has students that are natural explorers and want to travel the unbeaten paths, live in the host country with locals, and interact with student peers in the local community. The Umbra Institute can help with those requirements. Contact us and discover more how you can add the Umbra Institute to your list of affiliate/partner programs in Italy. We don’t want all your students, just the ones that will highly benefit from and contribute greatly to our program.
Strategic Cooperatives – Let Umbra Host Your Students and Faculty
Our most popular and integrated collaborative model is the CSAP, or Cooperative Study Abroad Program.
Under this model Umbra welcomes your students along with your professor(s) to teach a course or two at Umbra for a semester or summer session. The course taught by the visiting professor is adopted as part of the Umbra offerings and open to all Umbra students. Your students can choose from among the Umbra offerings in addition to the course taught by the visiting faculty.
This collaborative fully integrates the your school’s program into the Umbra environment, breaking the “travelling island with all students from the same school all the time” routine. And since Umbra already has a full-service program including pick-up, housing, events and activities, emergency services, and more, creating a faculty-led program in Italy has never been easier. If you are a faculty member or administrator and would like to bring a group of students to Italy with faculty, perhaps Umbra has the perfect solution. This is simply one example of the many ways Umbra and other institutions of higher education collaborate to greatly improve the experience of students abroad.
Umbra looks to develop CSAP programs with college and universities that will provide professors whose courses will add to the diversity of the curriculum at Umbra, and whose students will add a desirable dimension to the student body.
If you and/or your institution are interested in adding Umbra as a destination for your students or developing a cooperative program, please contact the the Umbra Institute at info@umbra.org.
