Bentornati Umbra Alumni!

More than 3000 young men and women have studied at the Umbra Institute since its inaugural semester in September of 2000. As an alumnus, you are among those who have been impacted in similar ways from the study abroad experience in Perugia.

The Umbra Institute has a much different look to it now than when the doors first opened those many years ago. The Institute now manages a large new learning facility in the historic center of Perugia in addition to the original building in Via dei Priori, which is now used principally as our art studio. On average, nearly 120 students come to Umbra each semester and summer session from the finest colleges and universities throughout the United States as well as Italian students from the local Universita’ degli Studi di Perugia.

What has not changed, however, is the Institute’s dedication to provide an authentic, safe and rewarding study abroad experience in Perugia. We are still committed to the teaching of Italian language and culture while offering a variety of courses from a broad range of disciplines. Umbra has developed even closer affiliations with the local universities and other academic institutions in Perugia who also send students to Umbra. We have developed new and reciprocal relationships with the Comune di Perugia, local merchants, businesses, museums and others to support our new mission of community engagement and learning through living philosophy.

Umbra now offers academic internships, volunteer activities, independent research, enrollment at the local universities, service learning and other community outreach initiatives to provide our students with an increasingly deep and diverse cultural immersion experience both in and out of the classroom. As always, we believe immersion is the best way for our students to learn and grow – and we continue to find ways to make Umbra students a part of the local environment.

Visit our Umbra Alumni Facebook Page to reconnect with the Institute, with former friends, and share your photos with the memories from your own study abroad experience. We would love to hear from you and hope that your time with Umbra in Perugia, Italy has made a lasting and rewarding impact on your life.

Bentornati!
