This weekend, the east coast of the United States experienced a significant blizzard. With multiple airports shutting down the weekend of arrivals, students found themselves booking and re-booking their flights to Perugia because no amount of snow was going to keep them from Italy!
The storm meant that students arrived over many days, rather than all at once. Umbra staff members spent their weekend at the Rome airport, welcoming students and helping them make their way to Perugia where colleagues provided orientation, led students to their accommodations for the semester, and assisted with other logistics. Students were happy to find a warm Perugia in the midst of Epiphany celebrations, dazzling lights and extensive street markets.
Spring 2018 students are now preparing to participate in four days of Intensive Italian, through which their professors will teach them how to grocery shop, travel, buy a coffee, and communicate at an Italian pharmacy.
We would like to wish all the best to our Spring 18 students as they begin their study abroad experience in Perugia!
