You will probably need a bag of coins for gelato! For ladies, a side satchel might be more convenient and safer than a shoulder purse. You will probably need an extra towel and washcloth but can purchase those in Italy...they're cheaper in the US but save your luggage some room going and coming. PACK LIGHT! Like they said...there are NO elevators. Our group learned this the hard way after dragging a 50+ lb. bag and carry on 4 flights of steps during the summer. Same principle applies when going on weekend trips...do pack light! Wear comfortable shoes... Birkenstock sandals are very popular in Italy so if you don't want to wear tennis shoes, these are a nice alternative.

And as suggested previously, make a few copies of your passport. You can keep these in your apartment, but when you go on weekend excursions, you might be more comfortable carrying around the copy opposed to the actual passport. Also right down where you are staying and the school's location. This might come in handy during the beginning of your trip if you get lost or if you're in a taxi. The bus system is super confusing and will take some time figuring it out, but the staff at Umbria are most helpful with this. And don't forget your camera with extra batteries!
Hope that helps!
