Most Memorable Experience at Umbra: My friends and I during our time in
Perugia often had what we referred to as “adventures.” Most of the time, this
meant waking up early on the weekend, heading to the train station, picking a
destination and spending the day somewhere in Italy. On one such adventure,
we found ourselves in Ancona. In Ancona, we watched the ocean, walked
through a very scary tunnel, ate some really delicious, albeit strange-looking
seafood, got lost, happened upon a cover band playing in an open market, and
missed our train. We had no plan of what we wanted to get out of the adventure
and as a result, got a lot out of it and had a blast. That was one of my favorite
trips we took and one of our most memorable adventures.
Advice for Future Students: Don’t be afraid to go to a place you have never heard
of. People might not know the town you visited by name, but it is the best way
to immerse yourself in the Italian culture away from tourist traps and to have the
most memorable experiences.
