Roger Williams University
Spring 16 Ambassador
My name is Courtney Emerson and I am a student at Roger Williams University, I am receiving my degree in Political Science and Sustainability. I plan on going to grad school at the University of Vermont to get my Master’s in Education. I am an avid runner, skier, and hiker. I love being outside and being active whether it is cliff jumping in Capri or hiking the tallest mountain in Europe (Mount Etna, Sicily).
During my time at the Umbra Institute I enrolled in an Italian Language class, Food and Culture of Italy, Art, Architecture, and Culture of Fascist Italy, Fresco Painting, and the Education Seminar. The classes offered at Umbra in Perugia were very beneficial to my time here. I feel that by taking Italian it made me more confident speaking with Italians. I also had to opportunity to take classes that were not in my major, such as Fresco painting and Education, which were amazing experiences and something I appreciate beyond belief. I have learned so much about myself through studying abroad in Perugia, I confirmed that I do want to be a teacher and that traveling is an important part of my life. Being in Perugia allowed me to visit a lot of Italy. Umbra has given me the opportunity to grow as a student and a travel enthusiast.
