When I was applying to study abroad, I wanted to focus on my Studio Art Minor, so what better place to study art than where the great masters of renaissance painting began: Italy? I decided that I wanted to be immersed in a place that was small and had little tourism, but still had the atmosphere of the perfect Italian town. For me, that was Perugia.
At the Umbra Institute I took classes in art history, female religious figures, fresco painting, and of course, Italian. I really enjoyed these classes because the professors were educated and dedicated to their work and teaching.
My favorite moment during my time at The Umbra Institute is so hard to find because it was such an incredible experience. It had to have been during the second half of the program because that is when I really began making strong connections. The people were my favorite because I have never met a more perfectly compatible group.
My advice is to give study abroad everything you have because it has been the most joyful and rewarding time in my life thus far.
