Spring 16 Ambassador
My name is Marco Saglimbeni, and I attend Chapman University in Orange County, California.
I had the opportunity to study at the Umbra Institute in Perugia, Italy during the second semester of my junior year. While at Umbra, I enrolled in three courses: Advanced Italian Composition and Conversation, The History and Culture of Food in Italy, and Education in Italy: Seminar and Practicum. Through these three courses, I was able immerse myself in three different aspects of Italian culture: language, food, and schooling. In the Education in Italy course, I also had the opportunity to involve myself in the community by helping as a teacher’s assistant for English language classes at a local Italian high school.
Furthermore, as a college soccer player, one of my favorite aspects of studying abroad was being able to join a local soccer team here in Perugia. Through this team, I have made friends that I will hopefully have the chance to come back and visit in the future. To any future Umbra students: studying abroad is not an easy process and takes time, planning, and organization. However, I can promise that the experiences that result from a study experience make it all worth it in the end, and I can say with confidence that the Umbra Institute is a great place to serve as your home away from home.
