Spring 16 Ambassador
I am Posse Scholar from Chicago and attend Connecticut College. I knew Italy was my choice because it was all I thought about during my sophomore year after talking with a peer who studied abroad. I studied abroad as a junior in college and loved the experience. Before my arrival, I knew that Italy was a place with many amazing views, lots of food, and many hills.
The first two weeks, missing home was really challenging, but when classes started I was able to focus on other aspects of my experience. I have been involved in events such as Tandem, Open Mic, workshops, trips to different pizzerias, and visiting elementary schools and churches for class trips. I also worked with Borgo Bello (a neighborhood in Perugia) for the Placemaking class, which has created great opportunities. In addition to this, the Contempary Italy course is very beneficial. My advice to future Umbra students is, “volere è potere,” meaning “where there is the desire, there is the ability.” Be active and make a difference! Another great tip: one of my favorite places in Perugia was the Alphaville café- a great place to study with wifi, friendly staff, and amazing “happy food” cupcakes.
