A Big University Town in a Small Italian City. Welcome Endicott students! Every semester (and in the summer) Endicott students take advantage of the Umbra Institute’s incredible location in Perugia, Italy to complete courses that count towards their majors, all while studying abroad and living in the real Italy. While the courses are engaging, students also have ample time on the weekend to travel elsewhere in Europe. Are you ready to experience Perugia for yourself?
Academics. Edicott students must take an Italian class and three or four other electives. Elective courses are in English, so no Italian language proficiency is required. Live like an Italian: Learn to appreciate the Italian lifestyle. Umbra provides students with shared apartments within a 5-minute walk of the Institute, allowing for innumerable opportunities to enjoy mid-day siestas, eat a panino on the fountain steps, and walk the city center like a native. There is no meal plan, but apartments are furnished with full kitchens so that you can try to duplicate your favorite new Italian dish. WiFi is provided both within the Institute and in each student apartment. Lastly, Umbra provides several activities during your semester to give you the opportunity to socialize and meet locals. “If you want to be immersed in a different culture Perugia is the place. You actually learn the language and the customs unlike some of the other study abroad programs. The friends I made abroad are going to last me a life time and I am so happy we all met at Umbra. We all cannot wait to go back one day. Soak up every minute of your time abroad it goes by so quickly!”

“Perugia is everything that I hoped it would be. I was never disappointed. The staff is incredible, helpful and caring. They would lead me to all the best restaurants and to all the amazing cities around Italy. Perugia is a small city and the people that live there are so kind, they are always trying to help improve your italian when ordering meals or drinks. I was constantly learning every time I stepped out my door. Plus the food in unbelievably good! The other students that attend Umbria will become your fast friends and you’ll keep in touch with them for life. This is an experience you won’t want to pass up! I have so much love and the greatest memories of Perugia and some day soon I’ll be back to fall in love all over again.”

My experience studying abroad in Perugia was amazing. Perugia is a small university city that is untouched by tourism. In a few short days this beautiful city becomes your home and you will begin to settle in to a new Italian life style. You will be able to walk to a new favorite café or famers market in a few short steps form your apartment. But don’t feel frighten if you don’t know the language Umbra gives you the tools to learn this romantic language, so that you can communicate with the locals outside of the school walls.
