Springfield Summer Program in Italy
Study literature in Italy — Summer 2017
Welcome Springfield College students! For five weeks in May and June, a select group of Springfield students take advantage of the Umbra Institute’s incredible location in Perugia, Italy to take a medieval Italian literature course, led by Springfield Professor Rebecca Lartigue, all while studying abroad and living in the real Italy. The course, “LIIT 397: Death and Desire in Medieval Italian Literature,” allows students to study masterpieces of Italian literature while surrounded by the language of Dante, Petrarch, and Boccaccio. Students also have ample time on the weekends to travel elsewhere in Italy and Europe. Are you ready to experience “la dolce vita” in Perugia and Italy for yourself?
Dates. The Summer Session runs from May 20 till June 24.
Academics. Springfield students and others can take Professor Lartigue’s course and even a second 3-credit course for very little extra charge. Courses are in English, so no Italian language proficiency is required. Courses meet twice a week, with no classes on Friday. See a list of standard summer courses here: Summer 2017 course offerings.

“My goal for coming to Umbra was to embrace the Italian culture as much as possible. I enjoyed learning and I can say that, here in Perugia, there is music and dance everywhere you go. I have grown so much just by being here and I will never be the same!”

“Professor Lartigue always inspired me to know and learn more. That’s why I came to Umbra to learn about Italy and about the culture here, but also more about America and myself. One regret I hear from every college graduate is that they never took the chance to study abroad. This program is so special and I was very lucky to be a part of something so unique.”
