Italian Language and Culture Program – Levels A2/B1

Spring Semester A2/B1 Italian Language Program – Elementary Plus

The Spring semester Direct Enrollment: University for Foreigners program consists of two separate courses as follows:

3-month course – January through March (Level A2)
1-month course – April (Level A2-B1)

This program is for beginner students who start their Italian language learning at the Common European Framework Level A2 (beginner), and after completing the three-month course, continue to study at the Level B1 (first level intermediate) for the remaining one-month course.

This program is taught entirely in Italian with the majority of the program taught at the Università per Stranieri di Perugia, and two tutorial hours per week at the Umbra Institute.

Weekly Schedule
Italian language: 12 hours
Speaking practice: 9 hours
Writing practice: 4 hours
Practice in pronunciation and orthography: 2 hours
Total hours of lessons per week: 27 hours
Tutorial Sessions with Umbra Instructors: 2 hours/week

Prerequisites
All beginner students who have not studied Italian before or who have only a vague knowledge of Italian (false beginners) have direct access to the basic second level beginner’s course (A2) without taking an entrance exam. Then, after the third month, the move to B1 level is acknowledged by passing an exam at the Università.

Objectives
Starting at a beginners’ level, the program A2/B1 aims first to review and consolidate those basic linguistic skills required in familiar environments and in routine situations (see objectives for level A2). Moving to the B1 level, you will be able to create the conditions to begin, maintain and conclude a short and simple conversation face-to-face or over the telephone, to easily understand simple, routine exchanges, to make yourself understood and to swap ideas and information on familiar topics. Furthermore, you will be able to interact in situations that may arise while traveling around Italy, to describe experiences, dreams, and hopes, to briefly present reasons for and explanations of opinions, projects, and intentions.

Main Grammar Points covered in A2-B1
