What have you been up to since attending Umbra?
Since attending Umbra Institute, I have graduated the University of Florida with my BA and moved to New York to complete my MBA in Art and Design Education. I am getting all the necessary certifications to be an art teacher in New York but also in other states. Currently I am a part time arts and craft teacher for middle school students in a charter school called Leadership Prep Academy.
How has studying abroad impacted your life both personally and professionally?
Studying abroad has given me the opportunity to gain experience living abroad and learning Italian as a third language. Also it has allowed me to expand my resume from working with the museum internship and even tutoring Italian students with their English language. It was honestly the greatest experience I had in my undergraduate career.
What are you doing now?
I currently go to school full time while working two jobs in New York City. I have my own apartment in the Bronx with my twin sister and my dog Onyx.
Are you still in touch with the friends you made in Perugia?
Yes. I still talk to 5 of the friends I made in Perugia!
What is one piece of advice you would give to prospective students thinking of studying abroad?
I say go for it. Study abroad for as long as possible. It is worth every single penny.
What is one piece of advice you would give to students studying abroad (during or after their experience)?
Definitely pack light. You will go shopping and you will have way more weight than you started with.
