Online Courses at Umbra
The Umbra Institute, in collaboration with the University of Mississippi iStudy Program, is excited to announce its new online course initiative. iStudy courses give students the opportunity to round out their study abroad curriculum with an online course from among Umbra’s approved courses. Students who choose to take one of their courses online must be enrolled in full-time semester study (15-18 semester credits, total). Limiting iStudy courses to one per semester ensures that students are able to make the most of study abroad without compromising the full international academic experience, or worrying about lack of guidance and assistance with an online course.
Umbra’s Assurance of Guidance, Oversight, and Integrity
Students enrolled in an iStudy course work closely with the iStudy program coordinator, with whom they will meet with on a weekly basis. The program coordinator monitors students’ progress, ensures milestones are reached, and schedules proctors for exams. Umbra’s oversight ensures that students follow the lesson plan properly, do all work assigned, and take exams at a scheduled time.
Now more than Ever, Study Abroad is Possible!
iStudy courses are specifically offered to help students enroll in courses that satisfy special curricular needs that would otherwise make it difficult, if not impossible, for them to study abroad for a full semester. iStudy courses make it possible for more students to pursue a life-changing study abroad experience.
Sample iStudy offerings include:
COUN 309: Psychology of Adolescence
ECON 202: Principles of Microeconomics
ECON 203: Principles of Macroeconomics
GEOL 105: Environmental Geology
HP 191: Personal and Community Health
PSY 311: Abnormal Psychology
PSY 320: Cognitive Psychology

Note: Not all courses listed by Umiss are available at Umbra. iStudy course selections are subject to prior approval by the Institute. In addition, it is the sole responsibility of the student to get approval from their home university for any iStudy courses they wish to count for transfer credit. Students enrolled in these courses are also subject to the academic policies of the University of Mississippi.
Additional Fees
Enrolling in an iStudy course will incur an added fee of $1,000 USD. This fee covers the registration and tuition costs, which Umbra pays to the University of Mississippi on behalf of the student, as well as the on-site support and University of Mississippi official transcript.
