Homestay Program with a Local Italian Family
A homestay program is ideally suited to students who would like to enhance their Italian studies outside the classroom in a warm, welcoming social setting.
Our host families are carefully selected to ensure Umbra students have the most rewarding experience possible. The Homestay Program includes a fully furnished, private bedroom, shared or private bathroom, linens, and access to laundry and kitchen facilities as well as Internet. Meals are not provided. However, you may have the opportunity to eat with your host family.
A homestay offers the opportunity to be completely immersed in Italian daily life and culture; however, it is also a challenge that requires maturity and an ability to adapt to a foreign culture. You will be expected to communicate largely in Italian which, although perhaps frustrating at times, is an excellent way to practice the language. The family will happily interact and converse with their guests, but cannot be expected to act as Italian teachers.
Homestay participants must also respect the host family and their property. No overnight guests are allowed. Walking distance is approximately 15 to 20 minutes from the center of Perugia, where Umbra is located.
Living with a host family is a unique and transformative experience and perfect for students who wish to fully immerse themselves in the life of a typical Italian.
