Welcome SBU students! Every summer Saint Bonaventure students take advantage of the Umbra Institute’s incredible location in Perugia, Italy to complete courses that count towards their majors, all while studying abroad and living in the real Italy. While the courses are engaging, students also have ample time on the weekend to travel elsewhere in Europe. Are you ready to experience Perugia for yourself?
Experience the Real Italy: Perugia is the capital of the Italian region of Umbria, a big college town in a medium-sized Italian city. Perugia is halfway between Florence and Rome on a hilltop surrounded by the rolling hills of Umbria and Tuscany. Since 2011, The Umbra Institute has offered the Food & Sustainability Studies Program, for the study of food systems, sustainability, and the environment.
Live like an Italian: Learn to appreciate the Italian lifestyle. Umbra provides students with low-density shared apartments within a 5-minute walk of the Institute, allowing for innumerable opportunities to enjoy mid-day siestas, eat a panino on the fountain steps, and walk the city center like a native. Apartments are furnished with full kitchens so that you can try to duplicate your favorite new Italian dish. WiFi is provided both within the Institute and in each student apartment.
How to Apply: Students interested in studying at the Umbra Institute must first be approved by their study abroad office. Fill in the form below and we will give you more info on the program and help you out with the application process. If you are interested in applying now, just click here.
