Study Abroad in Italy
Experience the Real Italy: Each semester, students from across the United States take advantage of the Umbra Institute’s beautiful location in historic Perugia, Italy. The Umbra Institute allows students to complete courses, taught in English, that count toward their degree. Courses are designed to use Perugia as a classroom and to give students ample time to travel elsewhere in Italy and Europe. Contact us below to inquire if your university’s undergraduate program is partnered with Umbra.
Live like an Italian: Learn to appreciate the Italian lifestyle. Umbra provides students with shared apartments within a 5-minute walk of the Institute, allowing for innumerable opportunities to enjoy mid-day siestas, eat a panino on the fountain steps, and walk the city center like a native. Apartments are furnished with full kitchens so that you can try to duplicate your favorite new Italian dish. WiFi is provided both within the Institute and in each student apartment.

“I studied Communications at SUNY Fredonia in upstate New York. I came to Perugia and traveled across Europe. Traveling and observing different cultures and places has given me a new perspective on life and has taught me lessons that cannot be taught in a classroom. The Umbra Institute and faculty has helped me embrace these lessons and has done so much to fuel the growth and education of myself and my peers.”
“I studied media on an international scale, as well as business at Penn State University. Studying abroad is a major requirement, but I couldn’t have chosen a better place to study in the world than the Umbra Institute. The environment is so breath-taking, along with the authenticity of the town, you feel like you’re living in a dream. The Institute faculty and staff are great! Always around to lend a hand and really help with involvement within the local community.”
