Why Present in Perugia

None of us have large professional development budgets from our institutions and some of us pay the bill to attend conferences out of our own pockets. The conference organizers wanted to give a few reasons why Perugia should be in your conference plans:
As a researcher, why should I attend this conference?
- Presentations come from across a wide range of disciplines – gain new perspectives on key issues;
- There are great opportunities for future collaboration for (and with) both new and experienced researchers;
- The small conference size (between 70-90 people) makes it easy to meet new colleagues and have great conversations even outside of the conference time;
- As this will be the eighth edition of the conference, so it’s not the conference organizers’ first rodeo;
- Relatively low conference cost;
- Researchers who may not currently be affiliated with an academic department are welcome.
As a teacher/professor, why should I attend this conference?
- There is a strong focus on pedagogy in food studies;
- Because attendees come from around the world, you can gain an international perspective on teaching and learning;
- The conference has a strong focus on experiential learning and co-curricular activities.
As a graduate student, why should I attend this conference?
- The conference organizers are happy to help beforehand with drafting a proposal, as well as to meet with you pre-conference to give you tips and suggestions on your presentation;
- The small size allows opportunity to connect with experts;
- You will gain new / expanded perspectives on interest areas and your discipline;
- There is a discount on conference fee for graduate students!
OK – but what ELSE is there?
- There is lots of support from conference organizers to help you get to Perugia and suggestions on hotels (with discounts for conference-goers);
- A beautiful setting (Google “Perugia” and check out the images) in a very walkable medieval city;
- There is wonderful food around every corner, including at the conference-sponsored events;
- You will have the opportunity to engage in the rich history of the area, including Perugia, Assisi, and other gems just a short train ride away;
- You can take part in the almost-internationally-famous Perugia Nooks &Crannies tour (no extra charge);
- Our social events allow real connection between attendees;
- Did we mention the food?
We hope to see you in Perugia in June 2026!!!
