Community Stewardship Day | Giornata della Custodia
On Wednesday, September 16, Umbra Institute students will take part in a hands-on community engagement activity in Perugia, in collaboration with CIA Umbria – Confederazione Italiana Agricoltori, the Umbrian branch of one of Italy’s largest agricultural organizations, which represents and supports farmers and rural communities across the country.
As part of the Community Stewardship Day (part of the Settimana della Custodia initiative), students will participate in a workshop with local children, using the olive tree as a starting point for a shared activity focused on creativity, reflection, and community. During the workshop, students and children will create personal thoughts and messages to place on an olive tree, creating a collective expression of the ideas and perspectives shared during the activity.
The completed olive tree will then be gifted to the local community during the inauguration of the new farmers’ market. In this way, the activity extends beyond the workshop itself: the students’ contribution will become part of a new community space and a lasting reminder of the collaboration between local residents, children, CIA Umbria, and Umbra Institute students.
The inUitiative reflects mbra’s experiential-learning approach by bringing students into direct contact with the local community and creating an opportunity for learning through participation, collaboration, and exchange. Working alongside CIA Umbria and local children, students will contribute to a project that connects community engagement with the agricultural traditions and social life of the area.
