School Year Abroad Alum Scholarship

SYA alums likely remember their amazing experience abroad, whether it was in Viterbo or one of the other locations. The Umbra Institute, which offers a full range of courses for undergraduates, is actively recruiting students who recently attended an SYA program. This offer is especially relevant for grads of the Viterbo program, but is not limited to students who were in Italy. All SYA alums are eligible. Of particular interest to Viterbo alums is the Umbra Institute’s program in Food, Sustainability, & Environment, which is similar to the Applied Agroecology that SYA Viterbo alums took during their year abroad.

SYA Scholarships

Each year, ISI Abroad offers tens of thousands of dollars for need-based and diversity scholarships, grants, and discounts for promising students hoping to study abroad in Perugia, Italy. To help expand the funding available and to recruit past SYA students who already have international experience, ISI Abroad has created the School Year Abroad Alum Scholarship program. This program provides scholarships for recent SYAers for study in Perugia. Students who have attended SYA can receive $1,000-$2,500 per semester or $500-$750 per summer session. Please note that funds are limited so early applications are encouraged. This scholarship cannot be combined with other scholarships. 

To be considered for a SYA Alum Scholarship, students must have submitted their Umbra Institute application form and must then write to [email protected] to schedule a short interview. SYA alums can also contact Katie Kurtz ([email protected]), an SYA alum who studied in Viterbo in 2019-2020 and who was an intern at The Umbra Institute’s campus garden in Summer 2022.
